Sangre de Cristo Mountains
The Great Sand Dunes owe their existence to these mountains and from the opposite direction, the San Luis Valley in Southern Colorado. As the winds carry the sands from the valley floor in an updraft toward the mountains, the sands get deposited at the base. Amazing that the other debris doesn't drop there.
